On a real receipt

On the receipt behind review #1, a "TLW" line was $14.99/day ($179.88 for 12 days). The receipt did not spell out what TLW stands for, and we have not confirmed Routes' definition, so this page does not guess.

If it was charged anyway

  1. Ask for a corrected, itemized receipt before you leave the lot.
  2. Do not sign a release that trades a partial refund for your card-dispute rights unless you have decided that is what you want.
  3. Send your card issuer a written billing-error notice within 60 days after the first statement showing the charge (15 U.S.C. § 1666; CFPB guide).
  4. Use the receipt checker to total it and draft the letter.

Frequently asked questions

What is TLW on a rental car receipt?

Codes vary by company. On the one receipt we can cite, TLW was a $14.99/day add-on. Ask the company to define each code in writing. If it was not explained, say so in a dispute.

Does the collision waiver cover tires and windshields?

Sometimes not. Read the waiver terms. Glass and tire exclusions are the usual reason these packages are sold.

Can I decline tire and glass protection?

Yes. It is an optional package.
